The Óbidos Lagoon keeps attracting innovative projects and world-class architecture

The town and lagoon of Óbidos continue to establish themselves as one of Portugal’s most dynamic hubs for contemporary architecture and high-quality tourism. Here’s an update on the main projects currently underway in the region.

Construction activity around the Óbidos Lagoon shows no sign of slowing down. Between established resorts, new developments and innovative concepts tied to surfing and sustainability, this stretch of the Silver Coast keeps drawing some of the most relevant names in Portuguese architecture and tourism investment.

West Cliffs and Royal Óbidos continue building at a steady pace, cementing their status as two of the area’s flagship resorts, each offering golf courses, real estate and five-star infrastructure right on the ocean.

Right next to Royal Óbidos, Surferscove is also taking shape fast — Portugal’s first artificial wave pool, which will use Wavegarden® Cove technology to generate consistent waves for both beginners and high-performance surfing, a project set to strengthen the region’s sporting and leisure appeal.

At Bom Sucesso Resort, the finishing touches are being applied to several standalone villas, while the 26 terraced houses designed by architect Alcino Soutinho and the 13 by Gonçalo Byrne are taking shape, reinforcing Bom Sucesso’s status as one of the largest collections of signature contemporary architecture built anywhere in Europe.

The Lagoon Village and West Lake Eco Resort developments are also progressing in the lagoon area, both built around a Mediterranean, sustainable architecture integrated into the landscape between the lagoon and the ocean.

And near the coast, a new project signed by Telmo Faria is taking shape: an ecoresort that will restore old vineyards from the region and enjoy sweeping views over the Atlantic Ocean and the Berlengas islands.

With all this activity in the area, it’s no surprise that we at Nave Lagoa are also preparing several new things for the upcoming season. Stay tuned!
